KZN Floods Devastation (Durban, Pinetown, Amanzimtoti) recap on 15 April 2022

Recap today on 15 April 2022 of the total flood damage after heavy rains in and around Durban (KwaZulu Natal Province of South Africa). Damage to buildings, apartments, roads and houses and rivers in floods. Crocodiles that got out of their enclosures and now in the Tongaat River.

In the last 72 hours more than 450 mm rain fell over the southern coast of KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) that led to the widespread and devastation flash floods and mudslides. Durban, Port Shepstone, Umdloti and many more cities has been hit by heavy rains.

The low pressure system responsible for the territorial downpours in KZN is slowly making it's way down to the coast of the Eastern Cape Province. Rainfall models are not seeing as extreme amounts of rain that fell in KZN but we still have a orange level 6 warning in place for heavy rain which could lead to more localized flooding today. Eskom has also started load shedding from yesterday at 17h00.
