Recently, police in the Spanish city of Seville posted this footage online which showed them cracking down on what they thought was an weed growing operation. And who could blame them? The seemingly empty building was using a momentous amount of electricity and emitting an unusual amount of heat.
After battering down perhaps the sturdiest door I’ve ever seen in my life, the cops were greeted with a surprise. Instead of the devil’s lettuce, they found a Bitcoin mining factory which was illegally hooked up to the power grid, and therefore being powered for free.
Upon analyzing the equipment, the police estimated the equipment as being worth over 50,000 Euros. In addition to this, it was stealing 2,000 Euros worth of electricity and generating about 3,500 Euros of Bitcoin per month.
