A young man escaped death narrowly when an irate mob beat him mercilessly before he was rescued by police after he attempted to kill a lady whereby he stabbed her severally and severely in the stomach.
Mwingi Sub County Police Commander Peter Mutuma confirmed the incident that one 24 year old Calvin Baraza lured and attacked Faith Makau, stabbed her in the stomach while at his rented room. This happened after some argument
He said that they were both residents of Mwingi Township at Katumba area only a few kilometres East of the Station. Mwingi police station OCS rushed to the scene and established that members of the public who were furious with anger wanted to lynch the said suspect.
He rescued him though he had sustained injuries on his face and body. He was rushed to Mwingi Level IV hospital for treatment.
The victim, Faith had already been rushed to the same medical facility by members of public in serious condition. Two knives that were used to stab the lady, two confiscated phones, a suicide letter and blood stained beddings were recovered from the house.
Speaking to the victim, Faith Makau said the suspect Calvin pretended to ask for her help in his house whereby after reaching, he locked the door, asked for her phone password after which he started stabbing her in the stomach.
Efforts to stop him did not yield and she sustained 3 cuts in the stomach and another one on her hand as she tried to defend herself. She became unconcsious before being rushed to hospital.
John Makau a brother to Faith who spoke to the press was bitter as he narrated the ordeal. Together with his other family members, they threatened the suspect who they claimed was lucky as he was under tight police surveillance otherwise they would have dealt with him one on one.
The suspect, under police check by his hospital bed had also tried to kill himself by taking poison. He had drafted a suicide letter recovered by police.
