After the incident of a vessel collapsing into the Padma Bridge River for the third time in three weeks, travelers have been asked to abstain from using Shimulia-Banglabazar route by the authorities as they restrict more ferryboats on the waterway.

On Friday, the authorities as per observing the difficulty to control the vessels under conditions of strong current, took the decision to lessen travelling on the route, as per the statement of Nazrul Islam Misha, spokesman of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation.

He added that the travelers may use routes alternative to Shimulia-Banglabazar, from Chandpur to Shariatpur, and Paturia to Daultadia to cross the river.

Only hearses will be permitted on the Shimulia-Banglabazar route on the ferries and alternative routes will be taken by the rest of the vehicles, as told by Syed Tajul Islam, BIWTC Chairman, when asked on the matter if the ferries on the route will be closed for the time being.
